Arnold Kim reports for MacRumors, “One of the many new features provided to developers iniPhone OS 4 are new APIs that give developers full access to Video capture data.”

“This could open the door to some interesting apps including Video Capture/Editing and more robust Augmented Reality apps when iPhone OS 4 finally becomes available to the public,” Kim reports.

“The iPhone 4 Beta SDK, however, also reveals the ability to capture video at higher resolutions than the current standard 640×480 (‘VGA’) resolution,” Kim reports. “These preset values suggest that a future iPhone will be able to capture at 720p (1280×720) resolution.”

“According to the Korea Times, which cites an anonymous industry executive, Apple will indeed discontinue its tradition of using Samsung-designed processors with its next iPhone,” Kelly Hodgkins reports for The Boy Genius Report (BGR).

“In its place, the phone will run a modified version of Apple’s A4 processor which just so happens to be proficient in handling 720p playback,” Hodgkins reports.

“It’s not a complete loss for Samsung considering it’s expected the electronics giant will be entrusted with manufacturing the chip, but no doubt Apple’s decision to keep mobile processor design in-house will effect Samsung’s bottom line,” Hodgkins reports.

“Though most rumors as of late concern an Apple-designed tablet to be revealed later this month, the next version of the iPhone is getting its share of buzz as well,” Chris Foresman reports for Ars Technica.

“We have already seen some evidence that Apple might bump the iPhone’s camera up to five megapixels, but there is also evidence to suggest the company may add an LED ‘flash’ to improve its low-light picture-taking abilities,” Foresman reports. “Imagination Technologies, the company that develops the PowerVR graphics processors used in the iPhone, has also announced an improved SGX545 graphics processor core… Imagination says that the tech is already ‘licensed by a lead partner,’ and Apple’s investment in the company certainly qualifies it as one of those partners.”

Foresman reports, “Finally, The iPhone Blog reports that buzz around the CES show floor is that Apple plans to add some form of limited multitasking to the next version of the iPhone. The details are naturally non-specific, though Apple has cited battery life and user complexity for not allowing multiple third-party apps to run simultaneously. Apple may include a PA Semi-designed, low-power ARM Cortex A9 processor in the next iPhone, which would negate the extra battery drain and keep performance at acceptable levels.”
